Small village Mano Juan is located on the Island Saona, which measures 110 square kilometers. Twelve families founded Mano Juan in 1944, during the tyranny of Rafael Leonidas Trujillo, who took them there to serve as sentinels for their resources.
Mano Juan is a beautiful natural reserve with turquoise waters, surrounded by palm trees and white sand. It is a small fishing village in which few people live in very humble colored wooden houses. The people of the town are very friendly and have shops where you can buy typical country souvenirs.
By decree 1311 of September 16, 1975, the island was declared a protected area. The typical shops were started about 26 years ago.
