Alvernia senior forward Angela Altemose scored 20 points, crossing the 1,000 mark for her career as Alvernia defeated Albright 83-47 Wednesday night.

Altemose drained her 1,000th point on a free throw with 13:35 left in the game, which was already in hand with the visiting Crusaders ahead 51-28.

The Crusaders capitalized on a cold-shooting Albright squad, opening up the game on a 16-0 run that spanned the opening 8:36 of the contest. Alvernia made its presence felt on the offensive glass early.

Samantha Martin's jumper at the 11:24 mark of the first half broke the shutout to end the drought, but the damage was done.

The Lions missed their opening 12 shots which included two foul shots that helped Alvernia jump out to the early lead.

Kari Ludy scored five of her nine points in the first half to keep the Lions close. She also recorded three steals to lead Albright defensively.

After Alvernia extended their lead to 31-10 with 3:01 left in the opening half, Albright tried to mount a comeback. They would as freshman guard Tara Sabotchik hit two free throws and senior guard Jenny Knoebel drained a three-pointer to breathe life into Red and White making the score 34-17 with 1:41 left in the half.

That momentum was short-lived, however, as Altemose took a pass from half-court, drew contact en route to the hoop and then finished the three-point play at the foul line with her 14th point of the half. A runner by Kelli McIntyre made it 41-19 at the half.

Coming out of the locker room, the Lady Lions followed their 24 percent first-half shooting performance by hitting just over 33 percent of their shots. Altemose and fellow six-foot forward Allie Toczylowski were too much though as Alvernia outrebounded 56-37 for the game, including a decisive 39-24 margin on the defensive side of the ball.

Senior guard Jenny Knoebel finished with a team-high 12 points in 27 minutes of action.

Altemose, who entered the contest as one of the Commonwealth's most balanced players added nine rebounds, four assists and two blocks. She also added one steal.
