(26 Oct 2017) The new Dutch government was sworn in by Dutch King Willem-Alexander in The Hague on Thursday.
After 208 days of tough negotiations, the leaders of four Dutch parties agreed on 9th of October on a draft programme for a new centre-right coalition government under Prime Minister Mark Rutte that will likely push policies further to the right.
The March 15 election gave the coalition a narrow one-seat majority in the 150-seat lower house of the Dutch parliament and ended Rutte's alliance with the centre-left Labor Party.
The new government is formed by the collation of Rutte's Liberals (VVD), Christian Democrats (CDA), the D66 party, and faith-based party the Christian Union (CU).
After years of austerity, the new government promised to reward voters with lower taxes.
