This color educational silent home movie film features the Saguenay River in Quebec, Canada. This film was created in the 1950s by man named John Hutter, a world traveler who worked as a lawyer and built an ill-fated guest lodge in Wisconsin called "Chateua Hutter".
Opening titles: Chateau Hutter Films present A John Hutter Travel Adventure - "Up The Saguenay, Scenic Waterway Of French Canada" (:09). John Hutter sits in front of a campfire in a cabin and introduces the film (no sound available), he points at a map which features Quebec, Canada and the city of Chicoutimi, which is the most populous borough of the city of Saguenay in Quebec, Canada (:28). Passengers ride on a Canadian Steamship Lines ship, look off to the side (1:02). People sunbathe and relax on the boat (1:30). Quaint town by the Saguenay (1:52). Mountains near the river, a small boat on the water slowly goes by (2:19). Little children walk on a street, two people ride in a horse pulled wagon (2:59). The river as seen from the back of a boat; mountains off to the sides of the boat (3:23). Shore of a small town (3:41). Grassy field with cattle roaming in the distance; sheep and cattle up close (3:53).Well dressed children and adults walk along a road near the river (4:26). An elephant sign that has ‘jumbo’ on it; a house with a fence that looks like a boat (4:41) called the "Villa Des Ha! Ha!" -- a reference to the Baie des Ha! Ha! (Ha! Ha! referring to "the place where bark is exchanged" in a first people's language) nearby. Banks of the river (4:57). Laundry flaps in the wind on a clothes line (5:08). Children run (5:12). A man rides a bicycle with a child through a rural town; others ride bikes and a horse-drawn milk delivery wagon comes past (5:27). A woman pushes a baby in a baby carriage; children smile at the camera (5:39). Women and girls walk from a place with religious statues (5:48). A car drives down a street near the river and some small town buildings (6:20). Church; river (6:31) and the Canadian Steamship Lines steamer in the distance. Homes and buildings on a hillside overlooking the river; houses on top of cliffs (6:40). A rush of water between rocks that comes from a dam, probably the Shipshaw Dam (7:19). School girls, in their uniforms, walk home down a street (7:47). Going down the Saguenay River on a steamer; mountains and cliffs are prominent off to the sides (8:01). People on a boat look at the awe inspiring imagery around them (9:19). Sun glistening water near cliffs (9:58). Filming from the back of the ship (10:30).
