Egyptian geese - sacred birds of Egyptian mythology. We popped down to the Vermont Salt Pan in the Overberg, Western Cape, South Africa with our Sony A1 and 200 - 600mm lens mounted on a custom low angle camera mount to see what we could film. The Egyptian geese were the stars of the show but we also had wonderful sightings of many of the other waterfowl present.
Egyptian geese are a species of waterfowl native to Africa, including the Nile Valley. They are a striking bird, with a distinctive black and white head, chestnut-brown body, and bright pink beak. Egyptian geese are typically found near freshwater lakes, rivers, and wetlands, where they feed on a variety of vegetation, seeds, and insects. These geese are known for their loud honking calls, which can be heard from great distances. They are monogamous and form pairs for life, and both parents are involved in raising their young. Egyptian geese are considered sacred in ancient Egyptian mythology and were often depicted in art and hieroglyphs. Today, they are a common sight in parks and gardens across the world.
