Waterproofing shower, Do you really need it? Plus flood test.. If you are building a shower, then you need to waterproof it. Just putting up a cement board and then tiling it without applying some kind of waterproofing, will lead to a failure. There are many ways to waterproof a shower, the tile is not going to stop water from entering your wall cavity, or going through the floor, waterproofing needs to be done. In this video I talk about the importance of waterproofing and give some examples of different products that can be used. For example, a liquid applied waterproofing membrane can be use, however it must be applied to the correct mil depth and two coats are usually needed, this is probably the most used, but at the same time the most incorrectly installed. A liquid applied membrane has to be installed to the correct mill thickness and should only have two coats in most cases. Sheet membranes are another choice, installed over a suitable backer board and Foam boards, which is what I like to use.
