Prime Minister of Iraq Mohammed Shia' Al Sudani reaffirmed his country’s commitment to the principles of international law, stressing Iraq’s “determination to establish the best of ties with everyone,” especially with its neighbors.
The Iraqi Prime Minister today (22 Sep) addressed the General Assembly’s annul general debate.
He said, “We reject any interference in our internal affairs regardless of the excuse. And our constitution stipulates that Iraq will not be a launching point for any aggression towards other States.”
Similarly, Prime Minister Sudani continued, “we ask everyone to respect Iraq's sovereignty and territorial integrity. We reserve our right to take the necessary measures as established by international laws and conventions to repel any violation of our country.”
He also asked the international community to help Iraq “combat corruption in all its stages.”
Prime Minister Sudani said, “We must all work together and cooperate and combat and corruption. We must return the money that they have stolen, because we believe that there's a symbiotic relationship between corruption and terrorism and this is what we all wanted to fight.”
On elections, the Iraqi diplomat said, “We are making steady progress towards holding local elections and the governor towards the end of this year, after a 10-year hiatus. These elections are a pillar of decentralization in Iraq. They are an important part of the resilience of the governance system as state establishments.”

Prime Minister Sudani concluded, “We, as the international community and governments in the region have no alternative except to intensify our efforts and to coordinate our work in combating drugs and any related activities that would facilitate them falling in the hands of our children, our societies.”
He reiterated, “it is no secret that there is a direct relationship between terrorism and drugs.”
The UN General Assembly (UNGA) is the main policy-making organ of the Organization. Comprising all Member States, it provides a unique forum for multilateral discussion of the full spectrum of international issues covered by the Charter of the United Nations. Each of the 193 Member States of the United Nations has an equal vote.
The United Nations is an international organization founded in 1945. Currently made up of 193 Member States, the UN and its work are guided by the purposes and principles contained in its founding Charter.
The UN has evolved over the years to keep pace with a rapidly changing world.
But one thing has stayed the same: it remains the one place on Earth where all the world’s nations can gather together, discuss common problems, and find shared solutions that benefit all of humanity.
