BEIJING IS DEALING WITH A SEVENTH STRAIGHT DAY OF EXTREMELY HEAVY SMOG.
A RARE SMOG ALERT HAS BEEN IN PLACE SINCE LAST WEEK, WHILE RESIDENTS ARE WEARING MASKS OUTDOORS.
THE THICK SMOG HAS BEEN HIDING MUCH OF BEIJING'S SKYLINE, AND THE CITY'S 147 INDUSTRIAL PLANTS HAVE CUT PRODUCTION.
ON WEDNESDAY, THE U-S EMBASSY IN BEIJING SAID THE AIR QUALITY INDEX MEASURED 541.
THE WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION SAYS THAT'S MORE THAN TEN TIMES THE POLUTION LEVEL IT TAKES FOR THE AIR TO BE UNSAFE.
ENVIRONMENTALISTS SAY PEOPLE ARE CONCERNED.
