OGS is one of my favourite Virginia based blend. In today’s video I will compare it to the new Orlik Vintage which is, an aged golden sliced. Up to now OGS blend was only available in the US & EU in 50g & 100g tins. I am happy to inform UK Orlik lovers that the two blends are now available in the UK, albeit in 50g tins only. Let’s find out what differences are between the two.
Orlik Golden slice blend description.
A blend of golden, fully ripe Virginia leaves from the traditional districts of the United States and a smidgen of perique. Natural sweetness and freshness with hints of citrus.
Notes: Previous edits to this blend have averred that a dispute exists whether or not Golden Sliced contains perique. It does. Please note that the website stglanepipe.com states on its Orlik page that certain of its blends (including Golden Sliced) contain "fully ripe Virginia and a little perique."
Orlik Vintage blend description
The Orlik Vintage pipe tobacco is a blend of premium aged Virginia with a pinch of Perique/Burley tobacco and no added flavourings. There is some debate as to whether there is Burley or Perique in the blend but this component adds a subtle spice note to the blend. This pipe tobacco is created using the same blend as Orlik Golden Sliced but is left cooking in the press for significantly longer. This produces a slightly darker and smoother smoking tobacco. The premium Virginias are smooth, sweet, and creamy with grassy citrus notes which are complemented by the subtle hint of spice every now and again. Thinly sliced into flakes Orlik Vintage is widely regarded as one of the best Virginia flakes on the market. This naturally sweet and spicy the blend is light to medium in terms of its strength and nicotine content with a pleasant room note. This mixture burns cool and smooth with absolutely no bite.
