The D16 road to La Croix sur Roudoule branches off from the D6202 road in Puget-Théniers, which is 8 km east of Entrevaux, and from there continues north along the Roudoule River.
After about 6 km you have reached the Gorges de la Roudoule, which can be crossed at this point over three famous bridges. The lower bridge dates back to the Middle Ages (14th century) and was used until the end of the 19th century on the way to Daluis or Saint-Légers. Then, in 1842, another stone bridge was built to further facilitate the crossing of the gorge. But as early as 1889, an even more usable upper suspension bridge was built, over which traffic still passes today, for example to Saint-Léger. This bridge is a technical masterpiece of its time and has made its designer famous. The first two bridges can only be reached and crossed on foot.
The way to La Croix sur Roudoule does not lead over the bridges but further into the gorge. After another 800 meters the road turns sharply to the right and continues uphill along the steep wall. After passing through a small tunnel and some more serpentines, you will reach the village after a total of 9 km. The road is, with due caution, easy to drive on. Above the bridges the road becomes narrower and you should watch out for oncoming traffic. The road is located in the province of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur and there in the department of Alpes-Maritimes / Maritime Alps.
