Scuba diving the Phi Phi group islands: Bida Nok, Bida Nai and in the Andaman Sea of Phuket Island.
The Phi Phi Islands, located between Phuket and Krabi. Phuket is the biggest travel hub in South East Asia. Most divers prefer to stay in the vicinity of of Kata, Karon, Patong or Chalong, since most dive shops are located around this area. November to April is considered the best season to dive due to the calm sea and limited rain fall.
Koh Bida Nok boasts remarkably dramatic underwater topography, the island is characterised by steep precipices, caves, swim throughs and under water cracks. The most popular dive spot at Koh Bida Nok is on the west side of the island. Most divers start from northern side or southern side bay and drift along with the current.
Marine life like Leopard sharks are usually found on the sandy bottom and Blacktip reef sharks may sometimes be found along the reef line. Kuhl's stingrays are common in this area and look out for small bamboo sharks hiding in the cracks. Look to the blue beyond the reef and you may also see schools of pickhandle barracuda and bigeye snapper. Along the reef you will find colorful reef fish such as pufferfish, porcupinefish and lionfish. Macro lovers should also keep an eye out for ghost pipefish.
Koh Bida Nai
Like its sister Bida Nai has amaizing topography of underwater crevices, huge boulders and fields of staghorn reef.
Stretched across the south and west coasts of the island is a gradual slope that starts at a depth of 5 -10m and is made up of hard corals like pore corals, table corals, and staghorn corals. There are also some big boulders and swim-through on the southern side.
The eastern side of the island is a big sand slope with fields of staghorn coral. Divers can find leopard sharks, sleeping in the sand or swim out to the large pinnacle beyond the reef for the big schools of barracuda, trevally and other fish. The top part of the pinnacle is around 14-18m from the surface and goes to depths of at least 30m.
