The island of Dominica, the famous 'Nature Island of the Caribbean', is located in the Lesser Antilles, between Guadeloupe and Martinique. This less touristy volcanic island nevertheless has a lot to offer the traveler. Bordered by the Caribbean Sea at the west and the Atlantic Ocean to the east, Dominica enjoys a fairly exceptional natural setting, between lush forests, natural hot springs and wild beaches.
The island is crossed by no less than 365 rivers, making it a dream destination for nature lovers. Some photos of Dominica are reminiscent of Costa Rica.
A former Spanish, French and then British colony, the island became independent in 1978, but has few resources. You will see it on site, just like Saint Lucia, Dominica is poorer than its French neighbors, and much less dense in terms of population.
Guadeloupeans or Martinicans who know the island will tell you, Dominica is the Martinique or Guadeloupe of 40 years ago! Omnipresent nature, a welcoming population, much lower prices, Dominica is for some a real homecoming!
In this video , we offer you a brief overview of this little-known and preserved island.
