In the face of climate change. drought is an increasing concern across the globe - as Europe experienced this summer. Acquiring, treating and transporting water uses significant amounts of energy. The water lost through leakages has been sourced, treated and pumped at least once to get into our supply systems thereby increasing carbon emissions via its electricity drain and also threatening water security. However, as utilities attempt to address the growing gap, they often fail to meet their NRW reduction targets due to a focus on one-time projects and difficult budgeting schedules.
This presentation will emphasize the utility of an ongoing SaaS (software-as-a-service)-driven approach to reducing NRW, and provide the example of L-band SAR based satellite monitoring as one of multiple technologies that can be used to address NRW reduction goals over time. The presentation will also address the technological background of ASTERRA's polSAR technology, as well as benchmark data from projects in drought-affected regions in Italy to compare results achieved using the Recover product.
