Design and production of a furniture series that utilize digital production technologies.
The series is designed on the principle of - one-stop shop. All the components in this case are manufactured in a digital production technology - CNC machining.
Each furniture is made out of a single board of birch plywood in a Nesting configuration – optimal arrangement of the furniture components and machining all the parts at once. Both the construction of the furniture and the upholstery is CNC machined.
18m”m Birch plywood was selected for the task, it’s a standard material worldwide, easy to find, affordable, bendable , CNC compatible and have a lot of good mechanical properties that make it very strong and durable for furniture.
The upholstery was CNC machined from a Palfoam - PA25 (by PALZIV™)
This material is a type of polyethylene foam, with low density (for comfort).
During the research process a manufacturing technique was developed to allow a good surface finish for the upholstery after CNC machining.
In addition, the furniture series defined as “digital" and "open source". This upholstery is a “serving suggestion”... For that matter, a client that orders the furniture from a digital commerce platform, will have the optionto choose the upholstery that he desires... Choosing the type of upholstery and padding is up to the client.
