The second installment of 100% From Wax where I make a beat sampling everything from vinyl with the Boss SP-202 then flip it on the SP-303. Deep diving into my dawless workflow in this much detail ended up being way too long a video so I broke it up into 3 parts -
Part 1: Sampling & Chopping a Drum Break, including using SP-303 MFX ([ Ссылка ])
Part 2: Sampling, Chopping & Flipping Jazz and Soul samples, pitch matching them with the SP-202
Part 3: Putting it all together on the SP-303's Pattern Sequencer ([ Ссылка ])
In this video:

I'm going to try to break down what I was thinking best I can but def feel free to ask me in the comments below about why I did anything I did.
Jazz Sample [Hi-Fi (31 kHz), Stereo]: Sampled at the sp202's highest sample rate because I didn't want to dirty it up more than I had to. Pitched down all the way, I do this quite often with my main sample because the bass get's deeper and the slower it is the more opportunies there are for longer chops. Sampled to the sp303 (Bank C) at Long (22kHz), I really like how that sample rate sounds, so old school and warm. MFX 13 EQ to boost the lows and pull back the highs a little. When chopping this sample I listened mostly to the bass, aiming for the start of the bass note and ending when the next drum (tom or hi hat) or bass note starts. I took 4 of the pads I thought worked well together and resampled variations of them to Bank B: a set of Isolator and a set of Filter altinates. These will come in handy when using the Pattern Sequecer later.
Soul Samples 1 & 2 [Hi-Fi (31 kHz), Stereo]: Both came from the same track and are in the same key, this makes life a little easier for matching the pitch with the Jazz Sample. The Jazz Sample is my main thing, the Soul stuff are elements I'm hoping to be able to layer on top at some point in the beat. With the Jazz Sample being pitched all the way down, as luck would have it (was not on purpose) the Soul Samples are very close to being in tune with that. I check what key things are in with my guitar and sometimes have to change the pitch with the samples a lot to make them fit, in this case I just had to make a small adjustment using my ears. Sampled to the sp303 (Bank D) at Long (22kHz). Both get Isolator to take out some lows and a little highs and slightly boost the mids, this will help it fit with the other sample without fighting for frequency space (hopefully!). I chop these more "on the beat". One of the chops get's a little Delay.
Drum Fill [Lo-Fi 1 (7kHz), Mono]: Lifted from a Ska Jazz album I played guitar on (The Nutty Boys' "Got Your Dancing Shoes"), I wanted to use this little bit of my dude Oliver Felbinger's drum solo as part of the intro before the beat kicks in. While sampling to the sp303 I mess with the pitch on the sp202.
Vocal Samples [Standard (15kHz), Mono]: In this small snippet there's a couple of vocal chops to be had, something for the intro and something for during the beat. "Don't get it wrong" is pitched up slighty on the sp202 and on the sp303 gets some Isolator and Delay. "Ya!" get's pitched down on the sp202 and on the sp303 get's chopped tight, Isolator and Delay.
That's about all there is to that!
I have a couple of sample packs:
"SP-202 LO-FI CHOPPED BREAKS, VOL. 2" - a collection of drum breaks sampled from vinyl and chopped into gritty lo-fi kits. Sampled with the Boss SP-202 Dr Sample at various sample rates then chopped and EQ'd on the Boss SP-303: [ Ссылка ]
"SP-202 LO-FI P BASS" - individual notes played and recorded with my Fender 50's Precision Bass then resampled with the Boss SP-202 at it's various sample rates: [ Ссылка ]
"LO-FI JAZZ GUITAR" - guitar loops and individual chords recorded with a Gibson Les Paul through a Vox AC15 amplifier, then sampled with the Boss SP-202 and SP-303 at various sample rates: [ Ссылка ]
