Peter Aldous MP calls passionately for all taxes to be clearly shown on fuel receipts.
The magnitude of the tax take every time drivers fill-up at the pumps has been hidden from them for decades.
This initiative to show taxes on receipts is supported by MPs from all Parties, 1.4m of the public, the RAC, FTA, RHA and APN to name but a few organisations.
In partnership with this 10 minute rule bill, a new APP called PumpWatch showing VAT, Fuel Duty and the much hated VAT on the duty itself, each time drivers fill-up, will be launched to UK drivers by FairFuelUK.
On Wednesday February 1st Peter Aldous MP for Waveney, delivered a 10 Minute Rule Bill following PMQs, calling for ALL taxes to be displayed in detail on fuel receipts.
His Bill, initiated by FairFuelUK, for fuel receipts to clearly display Fuel Duty as well as VAT, has significant cross party support, including from the All Party Parliamentary Group for Fair Fuel chaired by Charlie Elphicke, the MP for Dover.
• Peter Aldous said: “As a Conservative Politician, I am an inveterate supporter of a low tax economy. Yet, UK Governments of all persuasions have for decades presided over one of the most punitive and highly regressive taxes in the world by stealth. Fuel Duty! It’s time to be open and honest with our constituents to show how much drivers hugely contribute to public services and our economy. This is morally right.”
• Quentin Willson. Lead Campaigner of FairFuelUK said: “Peter’s Bill is targeted at 37 million drivers, for them to see how much they are contributing to the growth of our economy and our public services through UK’s high unfair fuel taxes. The traditional VAT only fuel receipts must end now, and be replaced with open, honest and complete tax information for all drivers to see every time they fill up their vehicles, to clearly show what they are giving of their hard-earned cash to the Treasury.”
• Howard Cox, Founder of the FairFuelUK Campaign and Secretary to the FairFuel APPG said: “When prices at the pumps fell to around £1 per litre in 2016, the tax the Government took from drivers reached a massive 75%. What other huge tax contribution is kept so hidden every time 37m UK drivers fill up at the pumps? The Prime Minister says she wants to help working families. This is an ideal Bill for her to support, to prove that her Government is open and honest with the size of the huge tax they take from them
