Remote Identification (Remote ID) is a “digital license plate” for drones. The Remote ID rule placed requirements on drone manufacturers in September 2022. Beginning September 16, 2023, all drones subject to FAA registration requirements must be equipped with Remote ID or limit their operations to an FAA-Recognized Identification Area or FRIA. Information broadcast by remote identification will be used by the FAA and local, state, tribal, and federal law enforcement agencies.
