We top the field edges to reduce the pressure from weeds creeping into the field. Ideally we would like to top the field edges pre-harvest to reduce the combine spreading the weed seed out into the field causing unnecessary problems further down the line. It also creates a clean edge for the cultivator, drill and sprayer. Field margins are also topped as part of the scheme we are in.
