I've been working on this for a quite a while now....and I'm so excited to finally introduce Roche Castle, Co. Louth, Ireland! Built by Rohesia de Verdun in the 12th century, it is the only castle in Ireland to have been built by a woman.
Built 800 years ago after the Anglo-Norman invasion of Ireland by the granddaughter of Bertram de Verdun, Henry II's trusted advisor, Castle Roche survived raids from the Gaels and The Battle of Dundalk (featuring Edward Bruce) in Ulster but finally fell during Cromwell's invasion, leaving behind tales of murder windows and unlucky husbands....
Meanwhile in England, Rohesia's ghost is apparently restless, and has been causing quite a ruckus over in Leicestershire!
Game of Thrones wouldn't get a look in!
