Hello.
What do we have here?
This is jar contains 155 2-euro commemorative coins and today we will have a chance to see what designs can we find here.
Sadly, I won’t be able to keep all of these coins because they belong to a fellow collector and these are his double coins that he has collected over eight years while working in his glamorous cafeteria in Old-Town of Riga. And this is a really popular place with tourists.
He gave them to me so that I can see what coins I need for myself and in exchange I would give some of my coins that he yet doesn’t have.
Of course, now we need to go through all of these coins and see what’s in there. In my mind this is a nice opportunity to see what coins over a longer period time have traveled to the heart of Latvia and have been found there.
As these are all his double coin, I don’t get to see other 32 coins designs that are not here, but are in his collection at home. But still, this will give a good idea of most popular countries traveling to Latvia.
Please write in comments your guess which country will win!
As usual I’ll keep the counter running to see the top countries in these coins.
Interesting, not too many Latvian coins. I guess that just proves that this place is more for tourists :D
We have quite a clear leader I would say. Actually, who is surprised that Germany takes the lead? I think no one :D
And the last coin is from France.
And absolute winner is of course is Germany. With 17 different designs.
Although many coins are from Germany, but the most common design is from Estonia 2017 – “Road to Independence”. A whole 9 coins of this design.
Second place is Germany 2011 - “Cologne Cathedral, North-Rhine Westphalia” – 7 coins
And on third place we have two designs one form Italy 2006 – “XX winter Olympic Games, Turin 2006” and Greece 2004 – “XXVIII summer Olympic Games, Athens 2004” – 6 coins each
My favorite coins among these are of course from Finland. And although I already have these coins, I’ll be keeping these for another swaps.
In the end I kept 16 coins out these coins. I had all of them already in my collection, but they will be useful for future swaps. Added them to my “numista” page so they are available for swaps now.
Also let pick the lucky winner for Croatia coin holder.
Today we have 22 participants. And let’s see who is the lucky one.
And the winner is: Priya Baral
Congratulations!
