As educators, we are used to hearing about learning preferences and how to incorporate a wide array of styles into our classroom practice. In fact, you may have come into contact with Howard Gardner’s Theory of Multiple Intelligences at some point in your career. According to Gardner, there are 8 intelligences: Visual-Spatial, Linguistic-Verbal, Interpersonal, Intrapersonal, Logical-Mathematical, Musical, Bodily-Kinesthetic, and Naturalistic. While sometimes criticized for being too vague, Gardner’s ideas still play a role with many educators seeking to effectively engage all learners. This video will summarize the main proponents of Gardner’s MI Theory, as well as give practical advice on how to engage these types of learners in an online classroom.
