The majority of the water flowing into the Salton Sea is from farm runoff and the only water going out is through evaporation. The inflowing waters bring many things including a lot of salt, and that salt has built up over time. Most of the fish can no longer survive in the lake’s extremely salty water, which affects the ecosystem. And, next year, the farm runoff water is going to stop and this only accelerate the shrinking sea.
