External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar's remarks at the BRICS Outreach Session in Kazan highlighted the paradox of change in today's world. While significant progress has been made, especially in diversifying production and fostering multi-polarity, longstanding global inequities persist. Many nations, particularly in the Global South, continue to face challenges in accessing resources, modern technology, and development opportunities. The COVID-19 pandemic and ongoing conflicts have further exacerbated issues like health, food, and fuel security. To address these challenges, Jaishankar proposed five key approaches. First, strengthening independent platforms like BRICS to reduce undue reliance on dominant powers. Second, reforming global institutions such as the UN Security Council and multilateral development banks to better reflect modern realities. Third, democratizing the global economy by creating more production hubs to enhance supply chain resilience. Fourth, correcting distortions in global infrastructure inherited from colonial times. Finally, sharing successful initiatives, such as India's Digital Public Infrastructure and renewable energy efforts. He emphasized that Prime Minister Modi's stance on conflict resolution through dialogue and diplomacy is crucial, particularly in the context of ongoing tensions in the Middle East. The session was a call for fresh thinking and cooperation to build a more equitable global order.
