Տրիո կլարնետի (B), ջութակի և դաշնամուրի համար/Трио для кларнета (B), скрипки и фортепиано/Trio for clarinet (B), violin and piano
Aram Ilyich Khachaturian (Արամ Եղիայի Խաչատրյան (Aram Yeghiayi Khach’atryan) /Арам Ильич Хачатурян (Aram Il’ich Khachaturyan) (1903-78) was an Armenian/Soviet composer who blended elements of his native Armenian music with modern harmonies. He wrote music of various genres, and he is best known for his concertos and ballet music.
The trio is a student work, and with an unusual combination of instruments - the composer stated that the material of the third movement (an Uzbek folk song named “Kara soch” (Black Hair)) needed a wind instrument, so he took the clarinet. Apparently, Prokofiev was impressed by the work, and took it with him in Paris, where it had a positive response.
For me, I am not very impressed (it feels a bit disorganized for me), though I think it is a charming work nevertheless.
