The scene in the rotunda of the Hawaii State Capitol on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013, as the state Legislature convened a special session to consider the "Hawaii Marriage Equality Act of 2013" (SB1) a measure to legalize same-sex marriage.
Opponents outnumbered supporters, and opponents focused their efforts on disrupting the proceedings with loud chants. SB1 saw its second of three readings in the House, and after several hours of procedural delays and repetitive floor remarks, passed 30-18 with 3 excused. Both sides vowed that the fight was not over, with a third and final reading to come (after which it returns to the Senate, then goes to the Governor, if it passes).
