Alaska used to be part of Imperial Russia, but they sold it to the US in 1867. Alaska only became a US state in 1959, along with Hawaii, making them the 49th and 50th states of America respectively.
Alaska’s state flag was designed by a 14-year-old boy.
52% of Alaskans are men – the highest percentage of any state. There are 107 men for every 100 women here.
