A mighty Boeing B-52H Stratofortress, serial AF60-007, arrives at RAF Fairford following a flight of about 10 hours 'over the pond' from US Air Force Base, Minot, North Dakota.A pair of sister aircraft arrived at Fairford on 2nd June, with this aircraft being delayed due to a technical problem. This is the third of three B-52H aircraft to arrive for a 3 week deployment based at RAF Fairford in order that the aircraft can participate in NATO Maritime exercises Baltops (Baltic Operations), focused on defending the Baltic Region from potential threats and involving Air Force and ground troops from 15 NATO member states as well as Sweden and Finland. The aircraft will also participate in NATO’s Exercise Sabre Strike that is being held in Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia until June 22. Some 10,000 troops from 13 NATO countries, including Poland, Germany, France and the UK, plus some non-member states, are among its participants. The B-52s will also be involved in US Africa Command’s Just Hammer exercises. This is the third year running that 3 B-52H's have been based at RAF Fairford during June and for similar exercises.
