(13 Feb 2014) The leaders of Afghanistan, Pakistan and Turkey arrived in Ankara on Thursday for a three-way meeting that aims to boost cooperation in security matters, and increase political and economic ties between the countries.
The summit was hosted by Turkey's President Abdullah Gul, who greeted Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Afghan President Hamid Karzai as they arrived at Cankaya Presidential Palace in the Turkish capital.
The theme of the meeting is "Sustainable Peace in the Heart of Asia" and it comes as Afghanistan is preparing for presidential elections in April.
It's an eighth such trilateral summit between the three countries.
The leaders are set to discuss ways to engage the Taliban in peace talks, as NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organisation) and international combat troops prepare to pull out from Afghanistan at the end of the year, 13 years after the international military intervention.
