A musician who stabbed a student to death with a 13-inch 'mafia stiletto' knife after a comment over a skateboard was jailed for 15 years.
Shiloh Pottinger, 20, knifed Luke O'Connor, a 19-year-old Manchester Metropolitan University student, eight times after taking exception to a light-hearted jibe.
The pair clashed as Mr O'Connor and his friends walked home from a party in Manchester's student area of Fallowfield in October 2022.
Pottinger overreacted to a remark about his skateboard and attacked Mr O'Connor when he stood up to his threats of violence.
The killer first used the skateboard to attack Mr O'Connor, then stabbed him eight times with the blade before running off.
Pottinger, a music producer and student at BIMM University, was cleared of murder but convicted of manslaughter following a trial at Manchester Crown Court.
The Recorder of Manchester, Judge Nicholas Dean KC, jailed him for 15 years and told him he had shown no remorse.
He said: "Any parent whose child departs for university at 18, as Luke had, will feel a sense of trepidation, particularly perhaps in a large city.
"No parent expects their child to be senselessly attacked and killed."
