Louis Jebb is CEO and founder of Immersiv.ly: the news platform for virtual reality. His vision is to make people love the news again, and sees virtual experiences and being inside others’ stories will help mainstream news act a vehicle for mass education.
One recent journalistic standout from Immersiv.ly is Hong Kong Unrest-- a news documentary directed by Edward Miller.
It is a 360 degree video (with a one-person crew) that tells the story of the 2014 pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong. The film breaks fresh journalistic ground by providing a news narrative, on a topic of world importance, using live-motion 360-degree video.
By opening virtual doors to others’ lives and events across the world, Louis wants to bring the trust back to news media. Riding our contemporary wave of 2D live streaming power, citizen journalists will continue to be empowered to share their stories in more engaging ways via the virtual reality medium. He and Immersiv.ly look forward to eventual participatory livestream news technology.
With a 30+ years deep knowledge of the newspaper industry, Louis saw that news publishers must care about their consumers, and takes this same kindness to the powerful medium that is virtual reality.
Keep an eye on Immersiv.ly and VR and AR to evolve the way we create, consume, and consider news.
