Back in March 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic forced all non-essential Boston University operations to go remote. University administrators understood that in order to bring people back to campus in the fall, BU would have to create its own system for COVID-19 testing and tracing. The goal? To test up to 6,000 members of the BU community every single day, with a test result turnaround time of less than 24 hours. Knowing BU’s research labs and residential learning communities were at stake, a group of BU College of Engineering faculty, staff, and students raced against the clock to assemble a one-of-a-kind COVID-19 testing facility from scratch, right on Commonwealth Avenue in BU’s Rajen Kilachand Center for Integrated Life Sciences & Engineering. In the video above, meet the team behind BU’s fully operational Clinical Testing Lab.
