(16 Feb 2015) Tens of thousands of revellers gathered in Rio de Janeiro on Monday for the famous Sergeant Pepper street party, which mixes the Beatle's top hits with samba rhythms.
The crowd took over Rio's Flamengo Park and sang Beatle's classics including "Here Comes the Sun", "All My Loving" and "A Hard Day's Night."
Sergeant Pepper is one of more than 500 alcohol-drenched street parties taking place throughout the city during carnival week.
Created by a group of Beatles fans, the band, which has over 100 members including percussionists, singers and dancers, is also loyal to it's Brazilian roots and features traditional samba drums.
"The people who produce Sergeant Pepper are very talented, it couldn't have been done by other people. That's why this street party is so successful," said Daniel Gnattali, who impersonated John Lennon at the street party.
Australian tourist Brent Wittwer, said the open air carnival party was "amazing."
"I've never been somewhere like this before," he said.
Carnival is huge not only in Rio, but across Brazil, with famous celebrations in the northeastern cities of Salvador and Olinda attracting tourists by the tens of thousands.
However, with the southeast in the throes of the worst drought in 80 years, some smaller cities in the regional have had to scrap their carnival festivities altogether.
Carnival wraps up on Wednesday, following Rio's all-night-long samba group parades at the city's Sambadrome, where thousands of musicians, sequin and feather-clad samba dancers and costumed revellers compete for the title of the year's top group.
