While Chenin Blanc originally comes from the Loire Valley in France, some of the very best comes from South Africa. Chenin is the most grown grape variety of any kind grown in South Africa and for centuries it was known as Steen until 1963 when it was discovered that it was the same variety as the Chenin Blanc grown in France.
