George Harrison wrote the foreword for (ex Beatles publicist) Derek Taylor's book "50 Years Adrift". He travelled with Derek to Australia to launch it and did this national press luncheon/conference at the Opera House. Planning ahead, friend John Karran (the jeweller) created a piece for George on the off chance we should speak. That piece was a solid gold stylised map of South Australia encrusted with a diamond. Also it was inscribed with thanks from the people of this state. I asked at the head of proceedings if I could make a presentation. They said OK and much to the rest of the gallery's chagrin I jumped up and chatted. I copped a caning in the nation's mags of the time. But so what? I met George Harrison - when you have a once in a lifetime opportunity, you take it no matter the situation. Little did I know we would meet a second time a year later.
