After flight #3 I was still having to hold Left aileron pressure to keep the ailerons in trail and wings level. I also noted in the view provided by the camera mounted on the cabane that in level cruise flight the elevators were deflected downward. I decided that a complete re-rigging of the aircraft was in order.
I had originally gone out to the airport to get rid of the snowfall that had accumulated over the last couple days, but today was so absolutely beautiful (well, for Winter in Chicago anyway) I couldn't not take to the sky and see how the changes affected the flight characteristics. The changes were immediately apparent upon takeoff. You can see that about halfway into the flight, I'm able to take my hands off and she stays pretty much straight and level.
My neighbor, Don, also couldn't resist the beautiful weather and decided to go for a hop in his clipped Cub as well. We decided to meet up to the West and give me some practice flying formation with him, and with the airplane flying so well in trim I couldn't help but roll it a few times and see how she behaved ( around 35:00 and 40:00). My rolls are a bit sloppy, but it's all still very new to me.. as well as the airplane.
I didn't realize that the intercom feed cable to the camera had come unplugged, so you won't get any of the radio traffic or narration of the flight during this video... but you can get a pretty good appreciation as to how noisy an environment the cockpit is behind the 540, as well as how smooth she seems to be running.
Very pleased with the way she's flying after 4 hours flown off my Phase 1.
