Challenging 7.5-hour T4 autumn hike in the Alpstein region, 1,200 height meters up and 1,550 meters down. Starting from Wildhaus, I took the gondola to Gamplüt, then faced a steep, long path up toward Schöfberg Sattel. The old path is closed and the new one not very well made, which makes it a tricky ascent, more scrambling than walking. The tough climb rewards you with stunning panoramic views the higher you get. After reaching Jöchli, I crossed the thrilling Nädliger Ridge to Rotsteinpass. Running behind schedule, I decided to stay overnight at the wonderfully renovated Zwinglipass SAC Hut, open until end of October. Many huts close in September, something to watch for. I highly recommend the Zwinglipass Hut, very comfortable and welcoming. The sunset was magical. On the next rainy morning, I made the 2.5-hour descent back to Wildhaus. Overall, this was a strenuous but rewarding hike with amazing rock formations and unforgettable vistas!
