Embattles Santa Clara County Sheriff Laurie Smith was in court in San Jose to begin her legal fight against charges of corruption and misconduct. Smith is in her 24th year as the county’s top cop, and in the midst of her scandal, announced she would not run for re-election. Robert Handa reports.
