Thanks for watching our project update on Central Avenue at I-475. I'm Theresa Pollick for the Ohio Department of Transportation.
Start with a recap of work since August of 2015, mainline traffic has been impacted on the shoulders with nighttime lane restrictions on I-475. We've also had some work done on the inside lanes of I-475. The noise wall foundations have been installed and traffic has now been put on the temporary ramps. Embankment work on the new bridge is underway, and now the work will begin on the new bridge.
Although a lot of the work has been able to be performed in the nighttime, this year will have the biggest impact to traffic. Central Avenue between McCord Road and Holland Sylvania will be reduced to one lane in each direction. At least one access drive will be maintained to local businesses at all time, and turn lanes will be provided to ease traffic flow.
Here is a map view of the impacted area on Central Avenue. These will be the lane restrictions from McCord Road to Holland Sylvania.
With the new bridge being built, there will have to be some interchange ramp closures, however, these will be relatively short and occur sometime in September of 2016. We're looking at a five-day closure of the ramps from Central Avenue to and from northbound I-475, and a nine-day closure of the Central Avenue ramps to and from southbound I-475. These will be announced.
Good news is the final lane configuration on Central Avenue and the new ramps will be open and traffic will be on the newly built bridge by the end of 2016. There will be some nighttime intermittent lane restrictions possible on I-475 and Central Avenue through September 2017, but the significant impact to traffic will end by the end of this construction year.
There will be work going on adjacent to the project. First of all, we have the I-475/US 23 safety project beginning to wrap up by July of this year, but we also have resurfacing projects going on on I-475. East of the area, I-475 from US 23 to Douglas and also south of the Central Avenue project, I-475 from US 24 to Dorr Street. These should have minimal impact to traffic as the resurfacing will take place during the nighttime.
There will also be a resurfacing project on Central Avenue from Centennial Road to the Lucas/Fulton County line.
This map provides an overview of the entire project. As you can see, I-475 is being widened from approximately Dorr Street to US 23. And of course you have the mainline work, which is taking place on Central Avenue with the new interchange being built.
And on top of the bridge will be northwest Ohio's first single point urban interchange. This traffic layout allows for all traffic to be controlled with just three signal phases, as you can see in the diagram [above].
This map shows a view of Central Avenue east of I-475 in its final configuration.
And here's a view of what Central Avenue west of I-475 will look like once the project is completed.
You can stay informed of all the lane restrictions and closures involved on the Central Avenue project. All you have to do is sign up on the District Two website. More information is provided on the link [above].
