Taken on 5/22/21.
Footage of a ride on a weekend West Hempstead Branch Shuttle train from West Hempstead to Westwood, then express via the Atlantic Branch to Jamaica. Due to signal work, switch work, and other trackwork in the Valley Stream area, West Hempstead trains could not turn at Valley Stream. The two bypass tracks on the Montauk Branch were out of service, meaning all service on the Babylon, Long Beach, and West Hempstead Branches had to operate along the Atlantic Branch. Shuttles from West Hempstead did not stop at Valley Stream, although they passed through the station.
This train was the 6:53 PM train from West Hempstead, which arrived Jamaica around 7:20 PM. West Hempstead express trains to/from Westwood during the week tend to operate via the Montauk Branch, bypassing Saint Albans.
UPDATE: As of 2/27/23, direct service to Jamaica (and Brooklyn except for in the peak direction) has now become the official service pattern for all West Hempstead Branch trains. There are no West Hempstead Branch trains stopping at, or terminating at Valley Stream. This is part of the new schedule, providing full service to Grand Central. However the trains do not run on the Atlantic Branch, instead staying on the Montauk Branch and stopping at Saint Albans.
