Robert Walton is “an original and talented thinker and theatre maker” (The Times, UK), who has created, directed and devised over 30 shows. His work spans theatre, installation, writing and media art. A creative trailblazer, Robert has been credited with creating “the world’s first piece of iPad theatre” (The Independent, UK) and has toured his work in the United Kingdom, Europe and Australia.
Robert Walton was the 2018 recipient of our international residency program with Blast Theory and pvi collective. We are grateful to the Australia Council for supporting this initiative. We were delighted to receive so many considered and engaging expressions of interest from artists across so many different artforms, from all over Australia.
The residency exchange programme offers an Australian artist the opportunity to undertake a residency with us at our studio in Brighton. The companies aim to support artists working in similar fields and to strengthen the sector as a whole through mentorship and critical feedback.

Blast Theory is renowned internationally as one of the most adventurous artists’ groups using interactive media, creating groundbreaking new forms of performance and interactive art that mixes audiences across the internet, live performance and digital broadcasting. Led by Matt Adams, Ju Row Farr and Nick Tandavanitj, the group’s work explores the social and political aspects of technology. Drawing on popular culture and games, the work often blurs the boundaries between the real and the fictional.
