Resp: Ps 71:8-9, 14-15ab, 16-17, 22
Gospel: Luke 2:41-51
Memorial of the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Lectionary: 358/573
Reading 1: 2 Tm 4:1-8
Beloved: I testify before God, and before Jesus Christ, who shall judge the living and the dead through his return and his kingdom: that you should preach the word urgently, in season and out of season: reprove, entreat, rebuke, with all patience and doctrine. For there shall be a time when they will not endure sound doctrine, but instead, according to their own desires, they will gather to themselves teachers, with itching ears, and certainly, they will turn their hearing away from the truth, and they will be turned toward fables. But as for you, truly, be vigilant, laboring in all things. Do the work of an Evangelist, fulfilling your ministry.
For I am already being worn away, and the time of my dissolution presses close. I have fought the good fight. I have completed the course. I have preserved the faith. As for the remainder, a crown of justice has been reserved for me, one which the Lord, the just judge, will render to me in that day, and not only to me, but also to those who look forward to his return.
Responsorial Psalm: Ps 71:8-9, 14-15ab, 16-17, 22
R. (see 15ab) I will sing of your salvation.
Let my mouth be filled with praise, that I may sing your glory; your greatness all the day long. Cast me not off in the time of old age: when my strength shall fail, do not forsake me.
R. I will sing of your salvation.
But I will always hope; and will add to all your praise. My mouth shall show forth your justice; your salvation all the day long.
R. I will sing of your salvation.
I will enter into the powers of the Lord: O Lord, I will be mindful of your justice alone. You have taught me, O God, from my youth: and till now I will declare your wonderful works.
R. I will sing of your salvation.
For I will also confess to you your truth with the instruments of psaltery: O God, I will sing to you with the harp, you holy one of Israel.
R. I will sing of your salvation.
Alleluia: See Lk 2:19
R. Alleluia, alleluia.
Blessed is the Virgin Mary who kept the
word of God and pondered it in her heart.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.
Gospel: Luke 2:41-51
And his parents went every year to Jerusalem, at the time of the solemnity of Passover. And when he had become twelve years old, they ascended to Jerusalem, according to the custom of the feast day. And having completed the days, when they returned, the boy Jesus remained in Jerusalem. And his parents did not realize this. But, supposing that he was in the company, they went a day’s journey, seeking him among their relatives and acquaintances. And not finding him, they returned to Jerusalem, seeking him. And it happened that, after three days, they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, listening to them and questioning them. But all who listened to him were astonished over his prudence and his responses. And upon seeing him, they wondered. And his mother said to him: “Son, why have you acted this way toward us? Behold, your father and I were seeking you in sorrow.” And he said to them: “How is it that you were seeking me? For did you not know that it is necessary for me to be in these things which are of my Father?” And they did not understand the word that he spoke to them. And he descended with them and went to Nazareth. And he was subordinate to them. And his mother kept all these words in her heart.
