A serratus punch targets the serratus anterior, a primary scapular retractor muscle. It can easily be identified on a lean muscular individual as the "gills" looking muscles bellow the armpit.
Begin by laying supine (face-up) on a flat surface. Lift your arm so that it is perpendicular to the ground. Without lifting your head or back, "punch" your shoulder up towards the ceiling and return to starting position.
You should be able to feel your shoulder blade glide laterally across your back.
A weight can be added for increased difficulty.
