You just got Meiko'd :)
Some people say they got into CityPop (Japanese music in general) by Mariya Takeuchi's Plastic Love but for me its Meiko Nakahara. If I remember correctly it was early 2019 during the boys locker room meme was popular, and her music "Fantasy" (remixed version) was used. I got curious about her song and started to listen to a bunch of them and the rest was history :)
