The Mint Tower (Munttoren in Dutch) is one of Amsterdam 's most famous landmarks. It is located next to the Bloemenmarkt, a floating flower market. The Mint Tower was originally part of one of Amsterdam's 15th century medieval gates. It got its name in 1673 during the French occupation of Amsterdam, and it was used to print gold and silver coins to help fund resources for the city. It features an eight-sided tower whose bells ring every 15 minutes.
