Alberta Premier Danielle Smith addresses the media in Calgary to respond to questions on her government’s newly announced policies around gender identity and youth.

In a video released on social media the day before, the premier announced the province intends to restrict access to certain gender-affirming medical treatments for children, prevent transgender athletes from competing in women’s sports leagues, and require parental consent for teachers to use a student’s preferred name or pronoun.
