軍, 3천t급 잠수함 '장보고-Ⅲ' 3번함 건조 착수
South Korea has started construction of a new three-thousand ton submarine.
The Defense Acquisition Program Administration says a steel cutting ceremony for the submarine was held on Friday at the Hyundai Heavy Industries shipyard in the southeastern city of Ulsan.
The submarine, named Jangbogo-3, after a legendary Silla dynasty admiral, is part of an eight-point-seven billion U.S. dollar project.... in which South Korea plans to build nine submarines in three batches using homegrown technology.
The first two submarines are already being built by Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering.
The first three are scheduled for commission by 2024 and will be equipped with state of the art combat systems as well as vertical ballistic missile launchers.
