New Amsterdam Travel Video- Brederode Castle Ruins are another Dutch surprise. The castle was built in the late 1200s and was destroyed and rebuilt several times by the different lords and knights that lived there until 1492, when the castle became uninhabitable. In the 1800s famous architect Pieter Kuijpers made renovations and today its possible to explore the ruins and full tower that are left standing. Inside are displays with period costumes and weapons and you can ascend all the way to the roof for great countryside views. Once a month the castle puts on a living history event with volunteers in costume. The castle is in Santpoort Zuid, just north of Haarlem and Bloemendaal. It's easy access by car or by train.
