Members of Parliament in the House of Commons held a minute's silence to mark one year since the start of lockdown - and they were joined by many around the country on what is being called the National Day of Reflection.
In a Cabinet meeting this morning, Boris Johnson told minister he had thought it was impossible to develop a vaccine and immunise half of the adult population within 12 months, and paid tribute to the people who have died during the pandemic.
UK monuments including the London Eye will be illuminated in memory of those who have died at 8pm on Tuesday evening.
