STORYLINE:
Canadian citizens continued to be evacuated from war-torn Lebanon on Wednesday, headed for Cyprus.
Cyprus has warned that it's reached its limit and would need EU help if it was to receive more evacuees.
The Cypriot ship, the Princess Marissa, was anchored off the southern city of Tyre as evacuees continued to congregate at the city's port.
The area around Tyre has been especially hard hit in Israel's military offensive.
One evacuee, Satema, said she was instructed by the Canadian embassy to go to Tyre to be evacuated, but that the perilous journey to get there was at her family's risk.
"We took a big risk to come with our children and we are still waiting here," she said.
Canadian officials said 1,187 of their nationals left aboard two ships on Monday. That brought the total number of Canadians evacuated from Lebanon to 7,887.
Officials said late on Monday that they had stopped phoning Canadians to notify them of evacuations, and urged them to report to loading areas without waiting for a call.
The violence began on July 12 when fighters of the Shiite Muslim Hezbollah group, allied with Iran and Syria, snatched two Israeli soldiers in a cross-border raid.
Israel has retaliated relentlessly with waves of attacks - bombs and missiles - that have destroyed Hezbollah positions and offices in south Lebanon, the Bekaa Valley and Beirut's southern suburbs.
The onslaught has killed nearly 470 Lebanese, nearly all of them civilians
Beirut's infrastructure - from its bridges to its international airport - has also been badly damaged.
Forty-two Israelis have been killed, including 24 members of the military. The military figure may rise following reports in the Arab media that at least 12 Israeli soldiers were killed in fighting at Bint Jbail.
