This documentary presents the work of two research groups that have invented chemical processes to recycle textile waste, revolutionising the way raw materials for textiles can be sourced in the future.
The worldwide growing demand for textiles has led to an unprecedented amount of raw materials required to produce textiles, primarily cotton and polyester. At the same time, people are throwing away almost as many textiles every year as are being made new. This situation is leading to abundant masses of textiles ending up in landfill and their valuable fibers going to waste.
The processes explained by the scientists are tackling the problem of both material sourcing as well as textile waste, offering a sustainable supply of raw materials for the future while reducing textile waste.
The documentary features Dr. Michael Hummel and Simone Haslinger from Aalto University, as well as Cyndi Rhoades, Dr. Adam Walker and Dr. Ashley Holding from Worn Again.
